New Birth Year Registration Announcement from USYS

To All NWC Club members,

As was communicated in the Fall of 2015, USYS will be transitioning to the new mandated Birth-Year registration for the Fall '16 - Spring '17 season, which affects both NHSL (NH) and MAPLE (MA) leagues, and as such all clubs playing in those leagues.  The detailed information on the mandate and reasons for the change can be found at NHSA and USYSA websites.

1. NWC will be transitioning to the new mandated Birth-Year registration for the Fall '16 - Spring '17 season, which means our upcoming tryouts in June will be setup accordingly.  Overall, an average of 4 - 5 players per team will need to move up to next age group; however, each team will also be receiving players from the age group below, which should ensure stable numbers of players for all teams moving forward.

 2. One of the most significant impacts of this change is the impact on players born in Oct/Nov/Dec of 2002 at the U13 group (7th graders) currently and going to U14 (8th graders) in Fall, where the U14 age group will be 2003 birth year.  In an effort to ensure that this group has the opportunity to play club soccer in the Fall, MAPLE and likely NHSL will have a U15 (2002 birthyear) Fall division.  The only question now is whether or not clubs can get enough 2002 birthyear players together to field teams.  To help us with this, NWC will be sending a survey to parents with players in the 2002 birth year to determine interest level.  It is extremely important that parents respond to the survey, so that the club can work with parents/players to provide the best opportunities in the Fall. http://www.maplesoccer.com/news/u15-fall-play/

3. There will be strict adherence to the Birth-Year registration/rostering during the tryout process.  All players will tryout with their appropriate Birth-Year age group.  As a reminder, NWC maintains a policy that the only exceptions will be governed by "Play-Up Rule".  Under this policy, players will only be allowed to "play-up" an age group under 2 scenarios:

For skill based "Play-Up" exception, ALL of the following conditions must be met

     - Player must attend 1 day of tryout with appropriate age group

     - The older age team (team that player would "play up" on) must be the top team in that age group.

     - Player must be assessed to be in 'top 3' of skill / development relative to players of older age team (Assessment must be agreed on by Club Director and Coach of older age team)

For common good "Play-Up" exception, ALL of the following conditions must be met:

     - Player must attend 1 day of tryout with appropriate age group

     - The appropriate age group must be below minimum number of players to reasonably assemble a team (ie. 15 for an 11v11).

     - The older age team (team that player would "play up" on) must be below minimum number of players to reasonably assemble a team (ie. 15 for an 11v11).

     - Club Director determines that the players development will not be hampered due to playing up on older age team

4. Prospective coach/team assignments (minimally the top team coach for each age group) will be finalized and communicated to the club by 1st week of May.
